Mission
The mission of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) at Jackson State University, "Mississippi's Urban University," is to create a diverse learning community in the field of planning; to provide students with the skills and knowledge to lead and contribute to the improvement of urban environments; to prepare students to understand and serve in a diverse multicultural society; and to increase the number of members from under-represented groups in the professional ranks.
Goals
- To develop a learning community that will support practice and leadership in the field of planning
- To attract and retain a cadre of students with strong potential to complete the program and contribute meaningfully to the planning profession
- To evaluate, enhance and maintain a master's curriculum and program that meet evolving planning and development issues
- To pursue research opportunities that supports the DURP mission as well as expertise of faculty.
- Increase public service and civic engagement activities of faculty and students
- Develop the Center for Urban Planning and Policy Assessment (CUPPA) as a research and public service arm of DURP and the
School of Policy and Planning
